Every Friday I pick the best culinary events in the DC area for my readers to enjoy. This weekend there are some great events to attend in and around the DC metro area.

Bastille Day at La Maison Française – Saturday (July 11)

An evening of feasting, music, and dance await you during this annual “Bastille Day at the Embassy of France”!!! Cocktails and a silent auction will begin the festivities, and you will have a chance to bid on restaurant and hotel vouchers, paintings and other pieces of art, as well as other luxury items. Trhoughout the embassy they will set up cafe’s featuring chefs from some of the area’s most prestigious kitchens (Café du Parc/ Willard InterContinental Washington, URBAN Bistrot/Sofitel, Ritz Carlton, La Ferme Restaurant, Bastille Restaurant, Ronald Reagan International Trade Center and Panorama Bakery) will offer mouth-watering creations. A luscious dessert service (Pâtisserie Poupon and Cacao Fine European Chocolate & Pastry) will follow and open bars will serve a variety of refreshing spirits and soft drinks. Admission: General: $85 ($45 tax deductible) – Benefactor: $150 ($110 tax deductible), Dress code is Cocktail Attire.

Alexandria Fireworks- Saturday (July 11)

Fireworks start at 9:30 PM over the Potomac in downtown Alexandria. The best views are from Oronoco Park, Oronoco St. and Union St.

Reston Festival- Saturday & Sunday (July 11-12)

The festival is located at Reston Town Center in the heart of Reston, VA. The festival celebrates the birthday of Reston. The Reston Festival showcases the best local entertainment talent, artisans, businesses and community resources in celebration of the birthday of Reston. The festival is open from Saturday, July 11 from 10am – 10pm and Sunday, July 12 from 10am – 7pm.

Spike’d Sundays – Sunday (July 12)

If you didn’t go last week, Former “Top Chef” Spike Mendelsohn hosts this summer-long pool party, with burgers, drinks and swimming. Located at Best Western Capitol Skyline Hotel, 10 I St SW, Washington, DC. Entry is $10 and includes a Spike Burger.

      To enter, contestants must be amateur bakers. All applications include a $5 fee  that will benefit Manna Food Bank. Prizes will be awarded for both fruit and savory pies. First place is $100 gift certificate, second place wins $50 gift certificate and third place is a $25 gift certificate. All prizes can be redeemed at participating local restaurants, shops and at the Bethesda Central Farm Market.
