Spiked Up Spiced Cider

Last week I missed the drink of the week as I was suffering from the Swine Flu. But, I am back. I also brought with me some cider. I picked up some cider last week to help me get over my flu. Like orange juice, apple cider has over 100% vitamin C per serving. So this week I decided to keep my immunity up by drinking cider even when I am having cocktails. I think it is working. I am not feeling sick and actually am feeling pretty good. Although, that may be the rum talking.

Serve with cinnamon stick for garnish and for stirring.

In a sauce pan add the apple cider, cinnamon, allspice, cloves and nutmeg. Place over low heat and let simmer for 20-30 minutes or until hot. If you are having a party, you could let this simmer all day. It adds a nice aroma to the room.

When you are ready to serve, fill a mug two-thirds full of cider. Top off with 2 ounces or more of rum.

Top off with rum, that looks like about 2 ounces.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick. It looks nice, adds flavor and has the hidden purpose of being a stir stick. Got to love multi-tasking. Right, Alton Brown? (I am pretty sure he doesn’t read my blog, but if he does a google search on his name it might pop up. If you are reading this, email me and we should barbecue.)

I may have added a little too much rum as the cinnamon stick was completely submerged. Nah.

Have a great day, drink responsibly and get a designated driver if you drink all six servings.

  1. What kind of camera do you use? These photos are incredible.

    1. Why thank you Rose. I use a Nikon D60 for my photos. I wish it had a better low light photo sensor but it does the job.

  2. Nice mug! This would be perfect for the fall.. drink and be warm at the same time!! Talk about multi-tasking…

    1. The mug is nice isn't it. Only clear mug that I have. Needed to show the sweet color of the apple cider. You are correct the drink as a whole is a multi-tasker. Keeps you warm and gives you a buzz. haha

  3. Aunt Heidi says:

Try using Capt. Morgan's…you don't have to spice the cider! For those who need a quick drink! 🙂

    1. Aunt Heidi – Captain works perfectly. Its weird, I had no Captain but all of the spices to make spiced cider. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing for a single guy. HaHa. Thanks for the tip.
