I love martinis but I really love dirty martinis. I something about the olive brine that makes a nice drink. While this is a simple recipe, bartenders around the world screw it up. Either the Dirty Martini has too much olive brine or it only has a splash. For the perfect Dirty you need to get the olive brine just right. The Perfect Dirty MartiniHere is a pic of the first Dirty Martini on my new bar.Mix the ingredients in a shaker and strain into a chilled martini glass. Yep that is it. The real secret is the amount of each ingredient.Extreme CloseupI made a few and I tried using Olive stuffed with jalapenos and garlic. Wow, it was a magnificent drink. The garlic and jalapenos really added to the olive brine. The flavors came through in the cocktail. I recommend trying olives stuffed with various other things besides pimentos. I bet a blue cheese stuffed olive would be amazing too.To make a traditional Gin Dirty Martini just substitute Gin for the vodka.— Rex
Dirty Martini
Perfect dirty martini with vodka, dry vermouth, and olive brine. Balance is key to this simple but elegant cocktail.
Pour vodka, dry vermouth, and olive brine into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well for about 10 seconds until chilled.
Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Garnish with 2 large olives on a pick or cocktail pick.
For gin version, substitute vodka with gin. For specialty olives (jalapeno & garlic, blue cheese stuffed), use those instead of plain olives.
Notes
The secret to a perfect dirty martini is balancing the olive brine with the other ingredients. Too much brine makes it too salty. Try specialty olives like jalapeno & garlic or blue cheese stuffed for unique flavor variations. Great as an aperitif.

I was making beef stew this weekend and I wanted to serve it over buttermilk bicuits. So I looked all around the internet for a great recipe. I decided to try one by Tyler Florence to see how it tasted. Due to lack of a biscuit cutter I cut mine into squares.
I have a vast collection of cookbooks. Some are new and some I have collected from yard sales and random book sales. I was looking through one random book on baking when a cutout of random paper fell into my lap. That cutout was from a July issue of Coastal Living, and described this brownie…
I make a lot of pizzas on this blog. Mostly, because it is my favorite meal. I love pizza. The number one question sent to me is – “I don’t really want to make pizza dough where can I get some”. There are many options. It really depends on how much work you want to…
The weather here in DC has been all over the place. We have had snow one day and a sunny 65 degree day the next. Who knows what it is going to look like tomorrow. When it is nice, I like to take advantage of it, you never know when it is gonna snow. It…
I am a sucker for sweet and spicy flavor profiles. So when we had a few chicken breasts lying around and a can of pineapple chunks, I knew that I had to make kabobs. To be honest, I have never been to Hawaii or even had traditional Hawaiian food. So the authenticity of this dish…
I have a lot of recipes that require clarified butter, but I have never posted how to make clarified butter. Clarified butter is basically butter fat without the milk solids in it. So it has a higher smoke temperature and a longer shelf life. It is great for sautéing and other applications that require higher temps….
