What to do this Weekend in DC (May 21-23)

There are a ton of great foodie events in DC this weekend. It all starts out today with the Verizon Center Offers A Taste of RAMMY Cuisine with the “Taste of 12” and an evening with Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert. After that there are food festivals and Mini Chef classes for the kids. All of that and amazing weather. Who could ask for more.

“Taste of 12”

Another year, another “taste” of area restaurants will take place on Friday, May 21 at Verizon Center with this year’s “Taste of 12” presented by the D.C. Lottery. The two hour luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the main concourse of Verizon Center and will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank as part of the Pollin family’s initiative to provide one million meals to those in need. The “Taste of 12” presented by the D.C. Lottery is the third annual event for the arena. Tickets are $12 to sample up to six of the different restaurant offerings and will be sold the day of the event only.

A night with Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert

The host of NO RESERVATIONS, Anthony Bourdain, is coming to the Warner Theatre Friday Evening, May 21nd for one night only. Bourdain is the acclaimed television personality, best-selling author, public speaker, world traveler, gourmand, and punk-rock aficionado. Bourdain will be joined by his special guest and friend, Eric Ripert, chef, author, and host of PBS’ Avec Eric. Ripert has been honing his talents at Le Bernardin, as executive chef and co-owner for the last 18 years. In 2007, Ripert presented his first casual neighborhood American bistro called Westend Bistro by Eric Ripert, for the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C.

Bourdain, with special guest Ripert, will provide an evening of storytelling and observation providing the audience with a frank and provocative back and forth about what really goes on behind the kitchen doors- from both ends of the spectrum. Through illustrative anecdotes and stories, the night will include highlights from Ripert’s career and lurid lowlights from Bourdain’s career, and will give the audience a real-world understanding of what it takes to survive in the cutthroat culture of fine dining restaurants. The program portion of the evening will include an audience Question and Answer.
