Rum Punch Main

Rum Punch

While on vacation in the Caribbean I was bombarded with Rum Punch.  The go to drink for every restaurant, day cruise, and beach waiter was Rum Punch.  I had a few of them over the course of my honeymoon and I noticed that none of them tasted the same.  I asked the bartender at my hotel how to make it.  He then blurted out a quick phrase. 1 of sour, 2 of sweet, 3 of strong and 4 of weak. I then asked what is the sour, sweet, strong and weak. He then said you can use anything that you want as long as it fits the category.  I finally figured out why every single rum punch tasted differently.  After a few drinks I determined his mixers.  For sour he used lime juice.  For sweet he used simple syrup.  For strong he used bounty rum.  For weak he used a mixture of pineapple and orange juice. He then added a few little other additions to make his a tad bit tastier.  A few more cocktails later and I had it.  Here is the perfect Rum Punch Cocktail.

Rum Punch

  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz light rum
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • splash grenadine
  • 2 dashed bitters

Fill a rocks glass with ice.  Combine all of the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.  Shake and strain into the rocks glass.

Garnish with a lime and/or a cherry.

Rum Punch

This is the perfect cocktail for spring as it brings you right to the islands.
