With the 4th of July approaching, I wanted to compile a list of our most popular 4th of July recipes. After going through the recipes, I found over 100 mouth watering and amazing recipes. Check out our favorites below…
Pork Belly Burnt Ends are the most delicious things that may ever touch your tongue. They are quite literally the best thing that I have ever made. We like to call them Melt In Your Mouth (MIYM) Bacon Cubes. These grew out of necessity and then turned into a sensation at my house. I had a pork belly that needed to be used and I did not have the time to cure it. So I cubed it, smoked it, and turned it into magical bacon goodness. If you can’t tell by now, I freaking love these things.
Smash Burgers are quite possibly the greatest burgers around! You take seasoned ground beef and smash it onto a griddle. You let the griddle caramelize one side of the burger and then flip, allowing a super tasty crust to form on the other side. These burgers cook quickly, allowing for the finished product to be juicy and delicious! These are hands down the best burgers ever. I love Smash Burgers!
Dana and I love Chuy’s Tex-Mex Restaurant! If you have one near you I recommend that you try it ASAP. Last year during their Hatch Chili Festival they had a limited time special menu that included Queso Fundido. What is Queso Fundido you ask? Well it is freaking glorious! Basically it is a Chorizo and cheese dip that you serve on warm flour tortillas. It is quite possibly the best cheese dish that I have ever had! The ooey gooey cheese and chorizo on a warm tortilla is straight up gold. My mouth is watering as I write this up! You have to try it.
Our good friends over at Thermoworks have released a new wireless thermometer called “Smoke“. The Smoke is a wireless thermometer that includes two probes. That way, you can wirelessly monitor both the pit and the food. As a barbecuer, this is important. The proper temperature is the difference between delicious bbq and charcoal. Plus, since this is all done wirelessly, you can do it while watching your favorite game or snoozing on the couch. We tested this thermometer while making a nice Honey Garlic Smoked Chicken. The chicken provided approximately 2 hours for us to test the thermometer and check its limits. The thermometer performed flawlessly and actually exceeded expectations. Check out our review below.
My son Liam loves to cook! The other day he asked if he could make homemade lemonade. I was happy to oblige. I got out the stuff and he told me to walk away. He was going to do it all. I told him that I would need to help as he hasn’t graduated to using the stove or a sharp knife yet. While he objected, he finally agreed as he really wanted lemonade. Just to set the record straight, all I did was cut the lemons in half and heat up the simple syrup.
My Father-in-law Bill is quite the mixologist and makes some mean cocktails (remember the Sangria). So I asked if he could provide the recipe for his awesome Tom Collins to the blog. He obliged and wrote an entire post! So without further ado, here is Bill.
Nothing is more American than the 4th of July barbecue and with Rex around the cooking is well taken care of but the drinks are my department. I thought back to all the summer shindigs we used to have in my aunt’s backyard and the adults always started the party with their favorite summertime cocktail, the Tom Collins and no one liked them or made them better than my grandmother.
The All American Bomb Pop Cocktail is the most American and best tasting cocktail around! No Joke. If you are looking for a great cocktail for Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th of July, this cocktail is for you. This cocktail is a little bit sweet, a little bit tart and all American! The best part is that the Bomb Pop is not only garnish, as it melts it adds flavor to the cocktail. It literally bleeds red, white and blue!
Last year I appeared on the TV show American Grilled. On that show I competed against Big Jim Stancil of Bareknuckles BBQ. We kept in touch after the show and started to chat about all things bbq and grilling. During one of those chats, he asked if I would like to go to the Jack Daniels BBQ Championship and help him out. I could not say no. Come on, it was the Jack! While there I helped Big Jim do a little grilling for the teams up on the hill. The dish that Big Jim made, was an elk burger topped with a bacon onion jam. Ever since that day, I have been dreaming of that bacon onion jam. It was slightly sweet, slightly salty and all around bacon-y. It was delicious! So this is my take on bacon onion jam. Thanks for the idea Big Jim.
Pepperoni Pinwheels are the ultimate appetizer. They contain all of the ingredients from everyone’s favorite meal, Pizza! They are easily shared and can be dipped in your favorite pizza/marinara sauce. Pepperoni Pinwheels are like mini pepperoni pizza sans pizza sauce. Therefore you can eat them in your favorite white shirt without too much worry. This is quite possibly one of the best appetizers that I have ever made.
I am a huge fan of pepper jelly. I like to add it to marinades and sauces, to add a little sweet heat. I also like to eat it straight up in Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches. Not to mention it is great with a little cream cheese on crackers. Pepper jelly is a pretty universal ingredient. I have tried almost all of the different commercially available Pepper Jelly’s but they just are not hot enough or they are way too sweet. So like any red blooded American, I decided that I could do it better myself. Wow, I was right. This pepper jelly is the best I have have ever eaten. It is not too sweet, but has enough heat to let you know that it contains Habaneros.
With the sudden drop in temperature and the start of football season, I have been craving chili. I have made a ton of chili recipes, but wanted to create one that emphasized corn and black beans. The combination of corn and black beans just intrigues me. So I went through my spice cabinet and started grabbing spices. After a few changes, I got the flavor that I was craving. This chili ended up being one the tastiest that I have made. The addition of the corn kernels added a nice texture and flavor. You have to try this chili.
Smoked Bacon Wrapped Cheese Stuffed Chorizo Meatballs is a really long name, but super accurate and perfect for this amazing appetizer. This is an awesome appetizer that is perfect for tailgating, cookouts, sports games or any day. The spicy, smokey and cheesey flavors are a great combination. If you want a great appetizer and have access to an outdoor grill this recipe is for you!
