I don’t know about you, but I love the glazed lemon bundt cake at Starbucks. So I wanted to try to make something similar at home. I experimented with a few recipes and finally settled down on this gem. This glazed lemon bundt cake is delicious and good looking too!
Dana’s Aunt Lois sends me recipes every once in a while. Lois has great taste, so I try to make them whenever possible. Last week, she sent me a recipe from Tea Time Magazine that looked absolutely fabulous. We decided that we should make it right away. This recipe makes one half of a sheet cake and then cuts it in thirds to make a layer cake. The cake is layered with a fresh Orange Cream Cheese frosting. The orange in the frosting gives the cake a little something extra that is different from other pumpkin cakes. It keeps you guessing. The cake was delicious.
I love a good pound cake. The name comes from the fact that the original recipe contained 1 pound of flour, 1 pound of eggs, 1 pound of butter and 1 pound of milk. A simple recipe that makes a gigantic cake. This recipe slims down the cake and adds a few little touches to … Read morePound Cake
Peaches are in season right now and they are sweeter than ever. I have a pantry full of them. I was looking for a new recipe that I have never even contemplated before. Dana and I were brainstorming and one thing I have never made was an upside down cake. So I looked around and … Read moreIndividual Peach Upside-Down Cakes
The other day, Dana and I were watching TV and it suddenly hit me. I have never made cheesecake on the website. I had to remedy the situation immediately. So I went to the store and picked up the ingredients. I then noticed that I did not have a spring form pan and was unable … Read moreSingle Serve Cheesecakes
So today is Dana’s Birthday! Happy Birthday Dana! I wanted to make her a super chocolaty cake, so I made a moist chocolate cake, layered with a fluffy chocolate filling and a chocolate butter cream frosting. It is rather intense with the amount of chocolate. As you can see from the pics, I need a … Read moreDana’s Birthday Cake
With the greatest holiday in the world approaching, Dana and I decided to make homemade Irishfetti cupcakes. These are similar to those oh-so-fun-fetti cupcakes that you buy in the store, but they are homemade and loaded with shamrock sprinkles. Yep, a nice white cake full of white and green shamrock sprinkles. Granted this recipe works with any sprinkles, but this recipe works the best for St. Patrick’s Day.
As you can see the green shamrock sprinkles add a colorful addition to the already delicious cupcakes.
Last week I wanted something sweet. After trying to recreate the Pot Belly dream bars, I had a ton of coconut lying around. The one thing that I always think of when I have coconut is German Chocolate Cake. It is that chocolate cake that is iced with a creamy coconut frosting. When I was researching this recipe I found that it is not German at all. German Chocolate Cake was originally made with a type of Baker’s Chocolate called German’s Sweet Chocolate bar. German’s Chocolate was a type of chocolate that was made for Baker’s by a man named Sam German. Yep, the cake is named after a type of chocolate, not a country. I had no idea. No matter where it comes from, it is super tasty.
The three layers of cake with the coconut frosting are amazing!
The other day I wanted something sweet and I could not figure out exactly what to make. Then I was doing a little searching on the internet and came across a red velvet cake. My mom used to make red velvet cake, but I totally forgot about it. Reminiscing I decided to make one.
As you can see the white of the frosting and the rich red cake make a perfect looking dessert.
It was my roommates birthday yesterday and I wanted to make a little cake (Happy Birthday Kate!). Actually a dozen little cakes. I asked her what her favorite type of cake was and I got an immediate response. Yellow cake with chocolate butter cream. So I made Yellow Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream.
The sugar circles on top give the cupcakes a polished look. Plus they are pure sugar and are extremely tasty.
