Orange Slice Jello Shots

Most people dread Wednesday as Hump Day, the Middle of the Week, halfway to the weekend. Not here at Savory Reviews, Wednesday is the day where we get drunk. Yep, Cocktail day.  This week we explored the world of Jello Shots. A couple of weeks ago, my friend Jeff (the hand model in the taco posts) told me about jello shots that used orange peel as the cup.  I was intrigued so I decided to try it out.  Instead of a shot glass or paper cup we are going to be using a hollowed out Orange. That way you can get every little ounce of alcohol out of the shot. I hate paper cups as the jello always sticks to it and you can’t get the full shot.  Here is my solution.  What can I say, I am here to help.

Bloody Mary

It is football season and one of my many traditions is to start the day off with a bloody mary. As a former bartender I have had many bloody mary’s in my day. Most of them were horrible. It was almost as if they just added tomato juice to vodka. After quizzing many bartenders on their secrets and trying them out for myself I have found a great recipe for the perfect bloody mary.

I always serve my bloody mary’s with a zesty dill pickle spear.

Vodka Martini

I can’t watch an episode of Mad Men without seeing a delicious looking Martini.  They have ordered gin and vodka Martinis.  But since I am also a James Bond fan, I am making a Vodka Martini – Shaken not Stirred.  Why does 007 order it shaken, because then it comes out nicely chilled with a slight froth of ice on top.  Basically it is amazing.

I serve my martinis in a 50’s style 6 oz martini glass with cocktail onions as I prefer the taste of them to olives.

The Old Fashioned

I want to let everyone know that I do read all of the emails that I get. There was a common theme in my emails this last month. Lets set this up. About a month ago I was extremely busy and didn’t have enough time to thoroughly read and review a cookbook. So I wrote a post about the Green Monster Cocktail.  Since that day I have been getting a ton of emails from loyal readers saying that they would prefer a cocktail over a book review.  I say if you want a cocktail, I will deliver.  Plus it allows me to drink on the job.  Hooray!!!  I know that some people like the book reviews so I am going to throw a link to one every so often.  A full review won’t be featured on the main page, but a link to the full review will be provided.  So here we go.  Time for a cocktail.

This week I decided to go old school and make a drink reminiscent of the 50’s as I have been watching a lot of Mad Men (a great TV show, check it out).

Green Monster Cocktail

Every Wednesday I usually write a book review, but this week I was way to busy to sit down and read a book. I know it is a shame, but I have been extremely busy. So instead of reading a book, I made a cocktail. Who doesn’t need a cocktail half-way through the week. There … Read moreGreen Monster Cocktail
