A couple of weeks ago, I made a batch of Bacon Onion Jam. It was the one of the greatest condiments that I have ever had. I love it so much, that I put it on everything. During one of my tests I put it on a grilled cheese sandwich. After a little testing with various cheeses and breads, I discovered the perfect combination. It was the most delicious grilled cheese that I had ever had. You have to check it out!
I love a good ole American Cheese Grilled cheese sandwich. However, I have been introduced to various other methods of cooking and found the best grilled cheese ever! This involves using a lot of butter, white bread and shredded cheese. Yep, no more american cheese. Ok, you really can’t call it cheese, but it is tasty! Yesterday I made homemade Tomato Soup. Nothing pairs better with Tomato Soup than a grilled cheese. I wanted to create the ultimate grilled cheese. To do that I had to take a trip to the supermarket. I wanted a nice thick crust so I started with a Rustic Wheat Bread. Hand sliced to perfection. Then I picked up the only ripe tomato available in all of DC. Finally I spent a little time in the cheese department. The base was Mozzarella. Great flavor and melts wonderfully. Next came the nice cured Manchego cheese. This sheep’s milk cheese melts great when shredded and has an amazing creamy texture and a slight salty taste. Perfect for a grilled cheese. Finally came the Gruyere. A cow’s milk cheese that has a great texture and flavor that works well with the other cheeses used in this Ultimate Grilled Cheese.
I love grilled cheese and this is the best I have had.
I love cheesesteaks but I can never find a butcher to cut the meat for me. So yesterday I was on a mission to find a butcher to cut the meat for me. I went to 5 grocery stores and then finally stumbled into a Giant with a meat counter and a bored looking butcher. I chatted with him for a bit and finally he said he would give it a try. I ordered a top round sliced as thin as possible. Granted these slices would be huge, but I could then slice them up further later on.
I flipped it over and the cheese is on the bottom of the cheesesteak. Still pretty tasty.
I have been getting a few emails regarding the French Bacon Sandwich that I posted on my about page. It is really tasty. I first heard about the French Bacon Sandwich when I was in college. My old roommate Nate and I were watching the South Park DVDs and the intro for Season 2. The intro consisted of a fake cooking segment called Bakin Bacon with Macon. In the cooking segment Trey Parker and Matt Stone teach the finer points of the French Bacon Sandwich. It can be a little hard to watch as they feed bacon to a pig named macon.
