BBQ Sauce Review: County Grill Memphis BBQ ‘N Rib Sauce

On my trip to Virginia Beach last summer, I picked up some County Grill & Smokehouse Bar-B-Que and Rib Sauce. County Grill is a great smokehouse and bar in Yorktown, VA. I would say it’s one of the best barbecue restaurants in Virginia. If you find yourself near Yorktown, VA you should stop by. To test this sauce, I tasted it as-is right out of the bottle and also heated it up over some perfectly smoked ribs. The sauce was tested over a sweet rub and a spicy rub to see how it reacted to various rubs. Therefore, I believe I was able to test it over most variables that it would encounter in your house.

Straight out of the Bottle

This sauce has a slight vinegary kick that is not overtly sweet. It is well balanced with a nice little bit of heat. The sauce has a great mahogany color with a nice smooth texture. Right out of the bottle, this sauce is a winner. It’s perfect for dipping chicken strips. Although, my son thought the sauce was a little too spicy for him. I have a high tolerance for heat so it takes a ton to make me even notice it. That is why it is good to have the family taste the sauces with me.

Warmed over Ribs

This sauce was great straight out of the bottle, but it really shined caramelized over some ribs. Since the sauce is so well balanced it did not overpower the rub, but enhanced the rub. Although I did not believe that the sauce was that spicy, when it combined with a spicy rub, it was a little too much at times. However, with a sweet rub, we found that the ribs were the best we have had. The sauce thickened up great in the smoker and the color did not change too much when heated. Check out the ribs below.

Overall this is a great sauce. It is a well balanced sauce that is good for all occasions. As noted, I thought it was perfect, but my son thought it was a little too hot. Therefore be a little cautious if you are using this sauce for kids. I would totally recommend you all to pick up a bottle if you find it near you.
