A couple of weeks back, we received a selection of sauces from Silverton Foods. Silverton foods makes many sauces including Apple Rum, Cherry Habanero and Pineapple Bourbon to name a few. The one that jumped to our attention first was the Apple Rum Sauce. Who could pass up a combination like fruit and alcohol?! You know we love our fruit and alcohol here on the blog…well without the fruit, haha. The thought of a sweet apple flavor with a nice kick from rum sounded like a winner! Check out our review below.
After Labor Day, I had a lot of leftover pulled pork. So I decided to use it to make my favorite dish, Pizza! I make pizza with all of my leftovers. However, this one was so good that I had to share. I used my leftover sauce, some thinly sliced red onion, green pepper for crunch and of course some delicious pulled pork. It was one of the best pizzas that I have made. I love it!
I collect barbecue sauces wherever I go. I don’t care if it is a farmer’s market, grocery store, big box store or even a back alley. Ok, the back alley might be a stretch. But you get my drift. On my latest trip to World Market I noticed that they had a nice selection of sauces. So I gravitated toward the KC sauces and picked up some Cowtown. This sauce is known around the bbq community as a great sauce. It even won best sauce in the world at the American Royal. Not too many sauces can say that.
This is my go to bbq sauce base. It is perfectly balanced and is the base sauce for all of my sauces. Like a sweet and tangy sauce, add honey and a pinch of cayenne pepper to the sauce. Like it vinegary then add 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar. Like it spicy add a pinch of cayenne, 2 tablespoons hot sauce and 1 tablespoon of chili powder. If you just love a nice and well balanced sauce, eat as is. This is why this sauce is the best sauce around.
I love meatloaf, but it has been so hot outside that I have not wanted to turn on the oven. So I decided to make a meatloaf on the grill. It is super simple and you get to be outside. I love cooking outdoors in the summer. OK it is not summer yet, but it is extremely close. I have been wanting to grill something ever since the guys from Pork Barrel BBQ gave me a bottle of their new Sweet Barbecue Sauce. I utilized the barbecue sauce inside and on top of this meatloaf. It was amazing!
The other day I was searching for something to grill. Then I found some chipotle peppers in my pantry. It was on. I was going to make a BBQ sauce and cook up some chicken. The sweetness of the peach would hopefully offset the heat and smokiness from the chipotles. It was a huge hit.
The weather here in DC has been all over the place. We have had snow one day and a sunny 65 degree day the next. Who knows what it is going to look like tomorrow. When it is nice, I like to take advantage of it, you never know when it is gonna snow. It just so happened that earlier this week we had a 65 degree day. So I immediately began planning a barbecue. It has been so long since I fired up the Weber that I did not know what to cook. So I researched a good barbecue recipe. I finally came upon a barbecue sauce recipe from Giada that used balsamic vinegar as the base. I was intrigued. So I made.
Last week I went to the local Safeway and they had an amazing deal on rotisserie chickens. Only $5. So I decided to purchase one and make a couple of recipes. Using the roasted chicken you can quickly make a couple of meals. There is plenty of meat on the bird and the bones can be used to make a nice stock or even a whole chicken noodle soup. The first recipe is inspired by the upcoming football game weekend. You know the one. I would call it by its name but I don’t want to get sued. Hand-held foods are the best for football parties.
This quesadilla is quick, easy, portable and totally delicious.
I always seem to bbq an extra chicken breast every time that I grill. I have no idea why there is an extra one, but there is always an extra. So I decided to come up with a great way to use the leftovers. On a side note, this use of bbq chicken leftovers is so good, I actually grill chicken to make it. Yep, it is chicken smothered in bbq sauce and layered with bacon and cheese. Oh, I forgot the best part. It is all in a potato bowl. How awesome does that sound?
Top with a dollop of sour cream and some freshly cut green onions.
