The Jefferson Memorial

This weekend is jam packed with events – everything from the Taste of Arlington and Taste of Wheaton to the Joint Service Open House and Airshow.  It is a great weekend.  Who doesn’t love an airshow?  I am going to be at Memphis in May this weekend with the guys from Pork Barrel BBQ.  We are competing, so wish us luck.

Taste of Arlington

Taste of Arlington® is an annual event that transforms the Ballston area into a lively street festival, complete with local entertainment, lively sponsors, children’s activities, and lots of noteworthy restaurants. Over 40 restaurants participate in this spectacular community event, which draws an average of 15,000 people each year who live in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

Taste of Wheaton

The Taste of Wheaton will feature:  food samples from downtown Wheaton’s best restaurants at prices ranging from $1 to $5 per “taste”, Hispanic wine tasting (Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Spain) hosted by Giramondo Wine Adventures, and live entertainment.

Farmers Markets in the Area

There is nothing better than fresh produce. I enjoy walking through the farmers market seeing the bounty of the day. I try not to have a recipe in mind when I go, that way it seems more Top Chef. Actually, it is because I am not sure what produce will be fresh. You don’t want … Read moreFarmers Markets in the Area

Easter Brunch

Every year before Easter I post the best Sunday Brunches around. This year we have a few new restaurants to the list. Make sure to get your reservations before Sunday.

Sunday Brunch is a ritual for a lot of people, but where to go is always a chore. I know that every single restaurant these days has brunch and it is hard to decide where to go. I wanted to write up a list of great places that I have gone for brunch, to make your lives easier. Plus, a lot of these places are not that well known and will allow you to call today for reservations.

Pienza Italian Market

One of my new favorites is the brunch at the Pienza Italian Market at the Gaylord National hotel at the National Harbor. The buffet is like one in vegas. It appears to be a quarter mile long. They offer everything from fresh baked pastries to custom omlets to a dessert bar with fresh custard. It is definately a place to go.

For Reservations call (301) 965-2000 – 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD 20745.

Time is ticking for Restaurant Week

You still have time.  Restaurant Week starts Monday!!!  DC Winter Restaurant Week is upon us.  Here is the gist of it.  Restaurant Week consists of the best DC area restaurants offering a 3 course prix fixe meal for $20.10 for lunch and $30.10 for dinner.  Restaurant week is from January 11-17, 2010.  So making a reservation at your favorite restaurants is a must as they fill up quickly.  It may be a little late to reserve a table at the hottest restaurants, but you can still find a table at one of the other awesome restaurants.

Here are my tips for a great restaurant week

  • Pick a restaurant that has the full menu for restaurant week
  • Stay away from the Steak Houses – They are usually lame
  • If the restaurant has a Restaurant Week menu look at it on their website before reserving a spot.
  • Try a new restaurant – Restaurant Week gives you the opportunity to try new and interesting cuisines.
  • Have fun! – Order a glass of wine with dinner.

Here is my list of restaurants.  All of them serve the lunch and dinner prix fixe unless otherwise noted.  I have provided links to check for reservations.  The links are set to look for open tables starting Jan. 11.
