Super Quick Marinara Sauce

Every once in a while you need a quick meal and don’t have any jars of marinara lying around. Or, if you are like me you like to make your own, but don’t have time to let it simmer for 2 hours. I made this quick sauce that took only 15 minutes to make.

Only takes 6 ingredeints, 8 if you count the salt and pepper.

Super Quick, Super Easy Marinara

  • 28 oz can of whole tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 2tsp dried oregano, 1 tbs if fresh
  • 2 tsp dried basil, 1 Tbs if fresh
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1-2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (Optional, but of course I used them.  I like it hot!!)

First thing grab a sauce pan and put it on medium-high heat.  Then add the olive oil until the bottom of the pan is covered.  Depending on your pan this amount can vary.  Then sweat the onions till translucent.

I know it looks like a lot of oil, but trust me it will taste amazing.

While the onions are sweating open the can of whole peeled tomatoes.

For a chunky sauce, pour the tomatoes into a bowl and rough chope them with a fork, potato masher, or my personal choice a dough blender.  They are available at most home stores or at the grocery store.  I picked mine up at the local safeway.

For a smooth sauce, pour the tomatoes into a blender or food processor and blend them up.

Now that you tomatoes are crushed or chopped check on your onions.  If they are looking transparent add the garlic.  Let the garlic simmer for a minute and then add the remaining ingredients.  This is also where you add your red pepper flakes if you like your sauce hot!

All of the ingredients in the sauce pan.

Let simmer for 5-10 minutes and serve.  Goes great with pasta, as a pizza sauce, or even over eggs and potatoes with a little homemade hot sauce.  It is simple quick and quite easy.

Enjoy
